Driven by a lifelong aspiration to reside abroad, David Stare’s encounter with wine culture blossomed during a trip to the French wine regions of Loire and Bordeaux. Inspired by the esteemed Loire Valley grape and captivated by California’s burgeoning wine scene, David relocated his entire family from Boston to The Golden State. The Dry Creek Vineyard, Chenin Blanc, Clarksburg, California ($10 for 6oz / $40 per bottle) stands as one of David’s initial plantings, ultimately making its way to White House dinners, revered by U.S. Presidents and visiting dignitaries. With classic aromas of melon and honeydew, the palate reveals refreshing hints of lime and cucumber, making it an exquisite companion to oysters on the half shell.
Beyond crafting world-class wines, the Stare family holds a passion for sailing. Since their 1982 vintage, Dry Creek Vineyard labels have featured a sailing vessel or a nod to their affinity for the sea. The Dry Creek Vineyard, The Mariner, Sonoma County, California ($20 for 6oz / $80 per bottle) “was conceived to pay tribute to the notion that a winemaker must navigate a vintage, akin to a mariner navigating a ship.” Crafted using the five noble Bordeaux grape varieties, the wine exudes aromas of black fruit, followed by a full-bodied palate accented with sweet spices and savory undertones. It’s an ideal complement to one of our Bone-In Signature Prime Steaks.
